Not exactly sure which bird I am seeing-- raven or crow? Whichever, their calls are much louder and like they are in pain or distress. Sometimes it sounds like a young child that has gotten their arm caught in something or even a cat fight! When they really get going with each other it will usually interrupt a conversation and I have to pause, listen and laugh. This is a short call and not to painful sounding.
